Highline Headlines - May 8

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and in Highline we are focusing on student wellness. Students at Innovation Heights Academy created short films about mental health, coping skills and substance use prevention to share with peers across Highline. Read how students are turning their stories into support for others.  

Canvas, one of our learning management systems, is experiencing a security incident. We have also temporarily blocked access to the website. This is an incident impacting our vendor, not Highline Public Schools. 

At Highline High School, students build identity, confidence and strong academic skills. In the latest episode of the Promise Podcast, teacher Jesus Torres Munoz sits down with Superintendent Dr. Ivan Duran to share how culture, language and high expectations come together in his classroom.

Join us for a fun and informative Welcome to Kindergarten districtwide event on Saturday, May 30, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Puget Sound Skills Center. Explore school readiness, meals, transportation, dual language programs and more. Read more details about this event. 

Six Highline schools earned state recognition for student growth or achievement. Congratulations to our students, staff and school communities for this work. This recognition reflects steady progress in classrooms across Highline and the support in place for every student to grow and succeed.  

You are welcome to join the Highline School Board and superintendent at a school board meeting. All school board meetings are held at the Central Office, 15675 Ambaum Boulevard SW in Burien, typically every other Wednesday, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 20. All regular board business meetings, work sessions and public hearings are public, and everyone is encouraged to attend. 

School meals are available to all students at no cost this school year. Check out school menus online every Friday (that’s today!) for the following week.
