Building Identity and Belonging in the Classroom

Highline High School teacher Jesus Torres Munoz brings more than 30 years of experience to his classroom. He teaches Chicano Studies and AP Spanish Language and Culture, where students connect identity, language and history.

In this episode of The Promise Podcast, Dr. Torres Munoz joins Superintendent Dr. Ivan Duran to share his journey from Mexico City to Highline, and what shaped his path in education.

Dr. Torres Munoz also explains how he builds a sense of belonging while holding high expectations for students. He talks about the role of culture in learning, the importance of community and what he hopes students carry with them after they leave Highline.
