Superintendent Ivan Duran has appointed Chad Kodama as principal of Tyee High School, effective July 1.
His strengths closely reflect what the Tyee community shared through the leadership ThoughtExchange, including trust-centered leadership, an equity-driven approach, and a focus on clear communication and collaboration.
Mr. Kodama has served as Sylvester Middle School Principal since 2022, building on his leadership at the school since 2018 when he joined as assistant principal. During this time, he has led a diverse community by:
- Fostering collaboration through staff-led professional learning.
- Developing and implementing of a strong instructional vision, anchored in inclusive environments for all students
- Ensuring strong transitions for entering sixth-grade students and families
Prior to Sylvester, Mr. Kodama served as assistant principal at Cedarhurst Elementary and as a school administrator and teacher in Seattle Public Schools.
Mr. Kodama holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Idaho and a master's degree from Seattle University. He earned his principal credentials from City University of Seattle.
