Tyee History Wall
A Place in History

Interpretive history panels were installed in the Tyee library when the current school building opened in September 2025. The panels commemorate the architecture and history of the original Tyee High School. Below is an online version of the history wall, to make the content easier to access and translate.

Mid-Century Flair, From an Incinerator

During construction of the original Tyee High School in 1962-63, workers install a tall metal flue through the roof of a seven-sided incinerator with brick walls. Beyond it, the circular buildings near completion to the east. The incinerator structure was later repurposed as the base for a student-built observatory, highlighted below.
The Observatory

A yearbook article about the Tyee observatory, "A dream come true," is shown in an image of the observatory section of the interpretive display panel in the library.
